Julian Assange Arrives in Australia After Legal Victory

Historic Day for WikiLeaks Founder

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, arrived in Australia on Wednesday after a court in the United Kingdom granted him bail while he appeals his extradition to the United States. Assange's lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, called it a "historic day" and said the deal had come as a "huge relief." Assange has been fighting extradition since 2010, when he was charged with espionage and hacking by the US government.

Ongoing Legal Battle

Assange's extradition trial is set to resume in September, and he will remain in custody until then. His lawyers have argued that the charges against him are politically motivated and that he would not receive a fair trial in the United States. The US government has argued that Assange is a flight risk and that he would not cooperate with his extradition if granted bail.
