Mets lost 6-2 to Blue Jays

The Mets lost 6-2 to the Blue Jays on Friday night, falling into a tie for the second wild-card spot in the National League.

David Peterson got roughed up, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. The Mets' bullpen didn't fare much better, as Sean Reid-Foley and Miguel Castro combined to allow another run on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The Mets' offense was also quiet, as they didn't manage a hit until the seventh inning. Eduardo Escobar drove in both of the Mets' runs with a double in the seventh, but it was too little, too late.

The loss dropped the Mets to 35-33 on the season, and they now trail the Phillies by one game for the second wild-card spot.

Peterson struggles early

Peterson had a rough outing from the start, as he allowed a leadoff triple to Bo Bichette in the first inning. Bichette would later score on a groundout by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Peterson allowed another run in the second inning on a solo home run by Teoscar Hernandez. The Blue Jays would add two more runs in the third inning on a double by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and a single by Matt Chapman.

Peterson was finally pulled from the game after allowing a leadoff single to Santiago Espinal in the fifth inning. He finished his outing with a line of 4 1/3 innings pitched, eight hits allowed, five runs allowed, and two walks.

Mets bats go quiet

The Mets' offense was unable to generate any offense against Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman. Gausman allowed just two hits in six innings of work, walking two and striking out eight.

The Mets finally got on the board in the seventh inning when Escobar doubled home two runs. But that was all the offense the Mets could muster, as they went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings.

Mets fall into wild-card tie

The loss dropped the Mets into a tie with the Phillies for the second wild-card spot in the National League. The Mets now have a record of 35-33, while the Phillies are 35-32.

The Mets will have a chance to break the tie on Saturday when they face the Blue Jays again at Citi Field.
